“A Report on Health and The San Francisco Foundation” was written by Dana Ullman, MPH, in 1979.  This health report analyzes health issues of the time (1978) and makes recommendations for priorities for funding from the Foundation for health projects.  This report was so well-received by the San Francisco Foundation’s Executive Director (Martin Paley) and their Board of Trustees that this Report was sent to every community foundation in the United States.

In 1979, the San Francisco Foundation had approximately $50 million in assets under management.  Today, it is one of the largest and most respected community foundations in the United State and has almost $2 billion in assets under management.

In 1979, the San Francisco Foundation’s Board of Trustees included:  Brooks Walker, Jr (Chairman), Robert C. Harris (Vice Chairman), A.W. Clausen (President, Bank of America), Rhoda Goldman (noted philanthropist), Hamilton W. Budge, Mrs. Lawrence V. Metcalf, and Charles Patterson.
